This is the third version of the future Floyd classic that would eventually be known as Careful with that Axe, Eugene. This version is the shortest of all of them, more than eight minutes shorter than the most recent installment in the Eugene saga, Keep Smiling People. It is interesting to watch the development of the tune; this version is definitely tighter and more aggressive than earlier versions, and it would continue to become more sinister until the additions of Roger's vocals created the definitive tune we know today.

Murderistic Woman is essentially a 'live' take; when recordings were made for BBC broadcast, they would usually be live, with little or no overdubbing. However, often several takes would be recorded, as the best of these would be broadcast.
