Green Is The Colour

Green Is The Colour 2:55
     (written by Roger Waters)

Heavy hung the canopy of blue
Shade my eyes and I can see you
White is the light that shines through the dress that you wore
She lay in the shadow of the wave
Hazy were the visions overplayed
Sunlight on her eyes, but moonshine beat her blind every time
Green is the colour of her kind
Quickness of the eye deceives the mind
Many is the bond between the hopeful and the damned

Dave sings in a high register that sounds rather like Roger's voice, and is accompanied by his acoustic guitar and a beautiful flute or recorder. The flute is either played by Roger (he can play clarinet, albeit not very well), Nick, or Nick's wife Lindy (a skilled flute player). Rick's piano is also prominent near the end.

Green is the Colour became a concert tune for the next two years. A gentle ballad with intriguing lyrics, it appears in the film during one of the sequences shot at Estelle and Stefan's summer cottage, when everything seemed to be going so well. It reprises again later in the movie when Stefan and Charlie are at a coffee shop, and Charlie asks Stefan to leave Estelle and come back to Paris with him, telling him she's destroyed two guys already.
