Overture/Prelude

Overture/Prelude
This piece was written and recorded by Roger and band, but was removed from the final soundtrack in favor of...

The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot (Part 1) 1:24
(sung by Vera Lynn)

Lyrics:
Christmas comes but once a year
For every girl and boy
The laughter and the joy
They find in each new toy
I'll tell you of a little boy
Who lives across the way
This little fella's Christmas
Is just another day

The film begins by panning down the corridor at the end of which is Pink's hotel suite. As with the album, the film is beginning with a 'flash-forward' to Pink as a rock star on the road in America. This and all the hotel scenes were shot at Pinewood studios. To get the carpet-level shot where the camera moves smoothly down the corridor, a Samcine inclining prism was used on the Panaflex camera. Sounding as if it is coming over the hotel's tannoy, Vera Lynn's The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot interweaves echoes of the war with the present setting, helping to lead in to the next song.

The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot (Part 2)  0:43
(sung by Vera Lynn)

Lyrics:
He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot
And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot
He sent a note to Santa for some Gohills and a gun
It broke his little heart when he found that none had come

This song did not originally have two parts, but was split into two for purposes of the film. We flash forward to the hotel room again, and Vera is drowned out by the maid's Hoover.
